Inflections of Tom Waits, Otis Redding, Percy Sledge, Tim Buckley and Al Green are evident in the emotional colour of his delivery. He can incorporate in a performance innovative scatting, interwoven with theunmistakable sounds of Tuva singing with influences here from [the late] Paul Pena.

Barry explores the technique of split harmonics and his phrasing is quite unique. He describes it as being like creative writing, it’s ‘creative singing’. His guitar playing has loads of power and passion, which he delivers rhythmically and percussively.

He returned to Australia after four years overseas midway through 2002. Whilst living overseas he performed at the 2000 Glastonbury Festival in the UK, at the Hanover World Fair in Germany, Crossroads Blues Cafe in Antwerp, Belgium, and at the Eden Project in Cornwall. Before returning home he appeared regularly at well-known acoustic clubs in London.

Shortly after returning home to Australia he recorded an album of his original songs -‘Northern Shores’ and performed at the Woodford Folk Festival in ‘02-3. and again ‘03-4. In November ’03 he launched another CD,’under the influence’-the songs of Tom Waits, and appearances at the International Wataboshi Festival at the Brisbane Powerhouse. He launched his latest CD ‘self induced cause’last December.

Barry performs at festivals both in Australia and internationally. At the Bay of Islands Jazz & Blues Festival in New Zealand - August ‘03 and ‘04 and with the backing of the renowned New Zealand blues band, ‘The RiverRockers’ at the Montana National Jazz & Blues Festival in Tauranga over Easter ’05 as well as at the Mission Bay Jazz-Bluesfest in Auckland Feb. ‘06.

Early in 2006 he performed solo at various venues around Australia before leaving for Perth and the UK in May for five weeks where he joined musician friends at an Amnesty International concert as well as performing at venues throughout the SW of England and Wales.

In August he returned to the Bay of Islands Jazz & Blues festival in NZ, in September, the Blues stage at the Music Muster and ‘Sunset Blues’ in the Woods at the Noosa Jazz Festival, Perth in October and the Sunshine Coast Blues Festival and Melbourne in November.
